If you are new to the world of apartment living, you may not be that familiar with how leases work. They are, after all, densely packed legal documents with more than their fair share of mumbo jumbo. Add to that the fact that your apartment complex may have very strict rules about how and when you can move in and when you can move out, and you’ve got some confusion on your hands. Let’s take a look at some of the more obscure fees and fines you may encounter now that you live in an apartment.
Since so many planned apartment communities are tight on space, and since so many moving trucks are so gigantic, most apartment complexes have rules about when a move in has to be completed by. The rules usually state that, because of noise, move ins can’t begin before 9am but they must be finished by 5pm. Depending on how much of a stickler your apartment complex manager is, they could fine you for not being done and not having your moving van or truck out of the way soon enough.
If you have a ground floor apartment and you have a piece of lawn in front of you, there is a chance you might be responsible for how it looks and what is left on it after hours. If you have kids that have been playing with toys outside, you could be subject to warnings and eventually fines if you don’t pick up after them. Toys can be a major tripping hazard, and more and more apartment complexes are cracking down on violators.
