Apartment living means living close to others.  You neighbors are not likely to enjoy large amounts of noise and music if you decide to entertain guests at your home.  Whether you’re having friends over to watch the big game, or having a family get together for the holidays, you still need to take your neighbors into consideration.

The best way to alert your neighbors, as well as subtly warn them that there may be increased noise from your apartment is to invite them to the shindig.  This will give them an opportunity to be part of the fun, as well as the knowledge that there will be louder than usual surroundings for a little while.  This gives them the options of coming to the party or making other plans so that they are not bothered by the noise.  It also shows consideration on your part.

Consideration of your neighbors is essential when living in close proximity to others.  Whether you are hosting a small group of friends or a large holiday gathering, informing your neighbors of the event is the best way to keep your relationship with them on an even keel.  Alternatively, you can keep your gatherings small and relatively quiet; this will ensure that no one is bothered and you don’t have the hassle of inviting or informing half of your building about the party.

Remember that apartment living comes with a price greater than rent.  You live close to others, some with small children and early bed times.  Showing consideration to those around you when throwing a party or other types of entertainment will go a long way towards keeping relationships friendly.

Clean throughout the party.  This does not mean that you have to break out the vacuum every fifteen minutes, but occasional spot checks will help you catch problem areas early, as well as problem guests.  If you see someone not taking care of your home the way that you would wish, ask them to treat your home better.  Do it in a polite way, of course!

Provide convenient places for your guests to place their garbage.  To avoid a pile up of trash on your counters and tables, make sure that you have several places for your guests to toss their trash and empties.  You should, ideally, have at least three large trashcans situated around your apartment.

Another time saving convenience is using paper plates.  This will save you the task of washing every dish that you own, as well as ensuring that there are plenty of plates and bowls for your guests to use.  Best of all, when the meal is over, your guests can simply toss the plates in the garbage, or better yet, the recycle bin.  You won’t have to wash anything and you can contribute to the environment by saving water and recycling, at the same time.

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you have adequate seating.  No one wants to be left standing, or even sitting alone, so make sure that you have several small groups of chairs available.  This will eliminate the need for a single large sitting area and make sure that no one is forced to sit alone.

Move large furniture items against the wall for the duration of the event.  Tables can be moved, easily, as can couches, sofas and loveseats.  Moving these out of the way and arranging them so that they can still be used will give you the most room possible, while still allowing you to use them during the get together.

Finally, make sure that you have a centralized area for food placement.  Often, it will be necessary to serve food and drink in a buffet style.  This will give you the most room, allow everyone access to the food that they want and make the event go much more smoothly, as well.
