Finding a Great Apartment in Baton Rouge

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

The city of Baton Rouge has a great deal of history to it. It’s one of the oldest cities in Louisiana and one that has been written about hundreds of times over several decades. It appears in stories around the world and for good reason. One of the reasons why so many people feature the city in their stories is because of the architecture. The city is filled with amazing architecture that definitely gives the city its own ambiance.

If you’re on the search for a Baton Rouge apartment, depending on what area of the city you want to live in, you’re in luck! Many areas of the city constantly have Baton Rouge apartments for rent coming available, so if you’re looking for an apartment in that section of the city, you’ll probably have a very easy time finding one. There are, however, some areas of the city, generally the more affluent ones, where it can be difficult to locate a Baton Rouge apartment that you can fall in love with – on a budget.

The easiest way to find Baton Rouge apartments for rent that are in the area of the city that you’re looking at, if it’s one of the areas where apartments do not become available very often, is to keep searching on a daily basis. Use an online search to narrow down your selections to only the areas of the city that you want, and search continually to see what new listings might become available. This will help you to locate a Baton Rouge apt listing the minute it becomes available, so that you can get the apartment that you want, where you want it.

Finding a Baton Rouge Apartment

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Today Baton Rouge is known as one of the more popular cities in the United States to live in. There was a building boom in the 1990s that has managed to take the city from a mainly historical city to one that is filled with multi-million dollar projects. New construction is constantly happening all around the city as well, which is why finding a Baton Rouge apartment can be a bit difficult.

There are, thankfully, a number of ways that you can find a Baton Rouge apartment online, however, and one way that is fairly easy to do is to use an online locator. These services are designed to help you find the type of apartment that you’ve always wanted, and that you can afford, without having to go through a great deal of hassle.

One of the best things about using an online locator to find Baton Rouge apartments for rent is that you can narrow down the area of the city that you want to live in fairly easily. Do you want to be near a specific school or in a specific school system? Maybe you want to live closer to the action in the heart of the city. Either way, these special search services can help you find the Baton Rouge apt listing that you’ve been hoping to find, and you’ll also be able to use an online calculator to help you to figure out if the monthly rental amount is something that you’ll be easily able to afford or if it’s a bit out of your budget range.

The ultimate odd couple: a hunter living with a vegetarian

Saturday, March 06, 2010

While it may sound like the plot to a new reality television show, every once in a while, a pair of completely mismatched roommates do get stuck together, such as a dedicated hunter or voracious meat eater living with someone who identifies as vegan or vegetarian. Most people would assume that these lifestyle preferences would be revealed long before the two of you move in together, but if it is an emergency situation and you don’t have time to exchange life stories, people with disparate personalities like this can get stuck together. Here are a few basic guidelines you can follow if you find yourself living in an odd couple situation like this.

First off, communicate. Make your limits and boundaries known right out of the gate so there are no miscommunication problems down the road. It is amazing what people will put up with for the sake of cheap rent or a perfectly located apartment, so just because you are a vegetarian, and you just moved in with a big game hunter doesn’t mean that the partnership is doomed to failure. The best thing you can do is to keep an open mind, be vocal about what you find acceptable on your end, and hang in there for a few months to see how it all goes.

Make sure you have food preparation rules and regulations that you stand by. You can even go as far as buying separate pots and pans that are just for you or just for your roommate so that you never have to share any cooking items. You can even buy your own plates and silverware if you want to go that far. Make sure there is always clean cooking and food prep space available that isn’t covered in meat guts or juices as a common courtesy.

How do Landlord Issues Start in Baton Rouge?

Monday, October 08, 2007

Before renting an apartment in Baton Rouge, make sure you don’t take issues for granted. In almost all cases, unless your landlord is a particular kind of crook, landlord issues start with a simple miscommunication. People sign a lease thinking that certain issues are covered, and they aren’t. This isn’t a big surprise, really. Most people only give a cursorily read of their lease before they sign it. This is especially true if you’re renting from a major corporate apartment rental company that has a very official and legal looking lease. They can’t really slip anything outrageous in there because they rent to too many people who know the law. The problem, in most cases, comes up when you rent from an individual who draws up their own, and probably not even legal, lease. An individual with no law training doesn’t know to put everything under the sun in a lease. I once signed a lease that was a single page and was made on Microsoft Word. And guess what? It turned into the worst landlord/renter relationship I ever had. Common disputes come up over utility bills, who is responsible for fixing things, the amount of notice that has to be given to move out and a hundred other things. The only thing a renter can do to protect themselves is to make a comprehensive list of questions to ask and GET THE ANSWERS IN WRITING! You have to protect yourself, no one is going to do it for you.
