Getting to know your pet deposit in Las Vegas

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

If you own a pet and live in an apartment in Las Vegas, chances are, you’ve paid a pet deposit. If you’re currently living in a no pets building and are moving into a building that takes pets or if you’re thinking about getting a pet, you’ll need to know the ins and outs of how a pet deposit works. In almost all cases, a pet deposit is a half month’s rent. It is a deposit, which means that assuming your pet hasn’t ruined the place, you will get the entire deposit back when you move out of your place. The problem with many pet deposits is the controversy behind what constitutes ruining the place and what doesn’t. Even if you have the most well behaved cat in the world, sometimes Fluffy has an accident and pees on the carpet. You may not see it, but the building manger may decide to replace the carpet after you leave, and once they tear it up, the stains become visible. This is often an excuse used by landlords to keep your pet deposit. If you feel that your pet deposit is being kept undeservedly, you can fight back. There are often arbitrators that you can file suit with as a substitute for going to court. Small claims court also works if your state doesn’t use an arbitrator system.

Packing tips for Madison

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

There are two kinds of people in this world, people who pack correctly and people who don’t. Depending on how far you’re moving, you’ll need to adjust the quality and quantity of packing material that you use. You’ll also need to adjust how you pack depending on if you plan to use professional movers or not. If you want to do it yourself, chances are, you’re going to be a lot gentler with your belongings than a bunch of strangers will. How you pack is also dependant on how you plan on moving your things. If you plan on using the flatbed of a pickup truck, chances are, things are going to get bounced around a lot more than they would if you plan on using an actually Ryder or U-Haul truck. If there is rain forecast for the day you are moving, you’ll need to make sure you have a tarp or some kind of cover so your things don’t get ruined. You also need to take the distance into account when moving to Madison. Some moves don’t even leave the building, while others are cross country. Moving is never a fun experience but planning ahead and having everything you need done can help reduce the stress a little bit.

Corporate vs. Individual Renting in Nashville

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

When it comes to renting an apartment in Nashville, you basically have two choices. You can rent from a corporate-run building that has a lease that resembles a small dictionary, or you can rent from an individual who draws up something that looks kinda legal but you really don’t know for sure. Most people prefer to go with the first option, since they automatically believe that their rights will be protected and that there is less chance of someone trying to pull a fast one if you sign a more official looking lease. While others prefer the working relationship between two people and feel that any problems can be reasonably worked out. Both choices have their potential pitfalls. Often times, people don’t bother reading the mammoth corporate lease they sign and sometimes there can be surprises in store. Rules vary from state to state on how late rent can be paid before fees are charged and one building may include the power bill in rent and others don’t. Make sure you have a full understanding of what your lease says before you sign it. When you rent from an individual, the main problems come from situations that aren’t spelled out in the lease. The landlord thinks its your problem and you think it’s the landlord’s. Just know that no matter what type of lease you sign, no renter/landlord relationship is conflict proof.

Tips to Finding an Oklahoma City Apartment Online

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

To say that the Internet has made searching for the perfect Oklahoma City apartment easy, would be a huge understatement. The Internet has served to increase the amount of information at our fingertips on pretty much every subject, but searching for a place to live has to be tops. It doesn’t matter where you want to live, from Japan to Chinatown, there are hundreds of apartments out there just waiting for you. The first challenge is learning how to use various apartment finding websites. Most are constructed to search by state, than by city, than once you have an area in mind, you can search by number of bedrooms, location, rent, amenities and lots of other categories. It can be a little overwhelming to most folks the first time because not only are these sites free, they come with full color pictures and complete descriptions of what each apartment has. You can choose from corporate run apartment complexes or you can rent from an individual. These sites have all of those options and more. The biggest challenge is deciding which apartment you want to go see in person. Remember to keep your budget in mind, it can be very easy to get carried away and before you know it, you’ve agreed to move into a place you really can’t afford!

Is renters insurance in Philadelphia right for me?

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

It is true that most folks in Philadelphia have never even heard of renters insurance. They think that it is only for people that can’t figure out any better way to spend their money. This really isn’t true. Renter’s insurance is for anyone looking for a little piece of mind when it comes to protecting their belongings. So, who is renters insurance really for? Renters insurance is perfect for you if you feel that you have belongings that need protecting. If you have some valuable items, like a stamp or baseball card collection and you choose to keep that collection with you instead of in a safe deposit box, than renters insurance might be a good idea. If you have valuable art on your walls or items that are one of a kind and completely irreplaceable, than renters insurance is a good idea to get. Renters insurance is also a good idea if you simply want some sort of protection against theft and disaster. But you need to make sure you read your policy completely, some renters insurance covers theft, some don’t. Some will protect you against fire damage, but not from floods or hurricanes. As with any major insurance policy, reading the WHOLE THING is always the best policy.

More Places Take Pets in Reno Than You Think

Friday, October 19, 2007

If you’re a cat or dog lover and you’re searching for a place to live in Reno, you may be depressed to find that most places won’t take pets. Often times, apartment ads online and in the newspaper make it very clear that they don’t accept our furry friends right in the beginning of the ads, but often times, these ads aren’t completely honest. Some buildings accept cats, but not dogs, so to avoid explaining this double standard to those seeking to live there, they simply say that they don’t accept pets at all. My building, for instance, has “No Pets” printed right on the front door, but once you ask, you realize that they happily accept cats, but not dogs. This is an advantage you get from seeking out a place to live in person because you can ask these questions face to face. Other buildings may work the other way around. The building managers and owners may have had problems with cats shredding furniture (in a furnished apartment) but they haven’t had problems with dogs, so they may accept one but not the other. The key here is to always ask, and ask specifically about your pet. They may allow fish or birds, but not cats or dogs.

Scouting Out Your New Town or City

Friday, October 19, 2007

One of the biggest challenges to moving is deciding on a neighborhood in a city that you don’t know very well. Unless you’re moving because of work or a family emergency, chances are, you have a working knowledge of the new town you’re moving to. You’ve been there before, you’ve walked the streets and you know the attitude of the neighborhoods. But if you don’t, you basically have two choices, You can hop on the Internet and let the multitude of reference sites teach you about each particular area, or you can go for a visit. A visit only really makes sense if you have the time, money and a good map that clearly defines what street borders make up each neighborhood. If you’re thinking about moving to a city like Atlanta, you need to know the difference between Buckhead and Bankhead, Five Points and the rest of the central business district and so on. Most apartment ads, whether they be in the newspaper or online, use neighborhood jargon, so you’ll need to know what all of that means. The answer to this puzzle is to simply do your research before you go so you know exactly what you’re looking at when you begin your apartment search.

Is there anyone out there that can help in Tacoma?

Friday, October 19, 2007

When you find yourself mired in a landlord dispute in Tacoma, it can be one of the most isolating experiences you ever go through. It can feel like you are fighting this battle by yourself, and if your landlord has gone through disputes before, chances are, they know their way around the law and the rules better than you do. Is there anyone out there that can help? In most cases, the answer is yes. Most major cities have groups that can help and advise renters on what their rights are, how legal your lease is, and what to do if you’re facing eviction. The problem is that the rules and your rights as a renter vary from state to state, and if you’re in Canada, from province to province. You may know the rules backwards and forwards in your home state and, chances are, none of that applies to where you are now. A simple Google search for “renters rights “state”, will help to steer you in the right direction. Also, don’t be afraid to contact a lawyer if you want. Most lawyers give free consultations, so even if you’re tight on money, you can get a professional opinion. The internet is also a fantastic resource that you can use to discover what your rights are, and what your current legal standing is.

How to Go About Finding a Place in a New City

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

If you’re like millions of Americans every year, you’re moving to a brand new city. Some people do it for work, some do it for love, others do it just to get a fresh start. But how do you find a nice place to live when you know nothing about the city, itself? It is the Internet to the rescue! Thanks to the seemingly endless encyclopedic nature of the Internet, you can easily learn all about a particular city’s neighborhoods without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. Of course, there is no substitute to getting into your car or hopping on a plane and visiting your new home city in person. If you have time and the money, you can start to stake out your new home city, buy a copy of the newspaper or pick up a copy of the local apartment finder and see what’s out there. Short of that, use apartment finding sites to see what neighborhoods are safest, which ones have the most affordable apartments and which ones have the kind of people that you think you’ll want to be around (business leaders, artists, etc).  In this day and age of limitless information, there is no excuse for not knowing your new city before you move there.

Discover the Benefit of Renter’s Insurance in Washington DC

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

If you’ve always wondered how you can help to protect yourself when you live in an apartment in Washington DC, the answer to your prayers might just be renters insurance. Renter’s insurance is a monthly insurance plan that helps to cover loss of belongings, helps to reimburse you if you’ve done work to your current apartment like adding shelves or something like that, and it can even help you if you accidentally cause damage or start a fire in another apartment. The biggest myth surrounding renters insurance is mainly that it is much too expensive for the average person to have. This isn’t always the case, however. You can get comprehensive plans that cost upwards of $100 a month, but you can also get a wide variety of smaller plans that are perfect for those only needing a little bit of coverage. Most companies that sell other forms of insurance like home insurance or car insurance also sell renters insurance, but you might have to call them specifically and ask. You should also shop around for the best rates, much like car insurance, the price of good renters insurance can vary dramatically from company to company. Overall, renters insurance is a good idea if you feel that you have a significant amount of belongings to protect. The cost per month is usually worth it.
